This course looks at observational drawing of still life subjects in Pen & Ink.  It starts with the basics explaining relative tone and how different weights of line affect a visual image.  Then moves rapidly on to experiment with rendering texture in pen & ink and how texture interacts with tone.  As part of the course we will spend short periods of time exploring this wonderful place to find interesting subjects that we will draw back at the studio.  The drawing exercises are split into manageable chunks leading you through the process of collecting visual information and creating simple, effective drawings.  Focusing on simple concepts and practical techniques, this course is suitable for everyone whether you are a beginner, a more experienced student, or are new to pen & ink.

Combine your love of walking and drawing.  We will go out and explore the landscape of this beautiful place each morning on foot, making fast sketches and taking photographs: looking at landscapes, rock formations, landmarks and vegetation.   This will be followed by an afternoon and evening creating finished drawings in pen & ink, with particular reference to the work of Alfred Wainwright.  Lots of fun and suitable for everyone, whatever your drawing abilities.

Taking you through the process of collecting visual information, researching, drawing and experimenting:  a whole week of connected, interesting projects to inspire and develop your sketchbook activities.   A fabulous opportunity to interact with this beautiful place, where you will be encouraged draw everything you see from morning until night.  This year it we spend one day undertaking a visual investigation of the works of John Constable, including drawing one of his iconic views.

This pen & ink drawing course covers the basics of drawing in perspective and rapidly takes you beyond these technical details into how your mind perceives space.  It illustrates that perspective is in everything, but veers away from lots of dull perspective exercises showing you all of the ways in which you might choose to curve (or even ignore!) perspective.   The weekend will include drawing exercises, indoor still life subjects and some simple outdoor architectural observational drawing exercises.
